Ready for some cabin fun? We know that when staying in the middle of nowhere or in a new place, things can get boring from time to time. So, when it seems like there is nothing to do, grab your family or your friends, and play some games! It doesn’t matter if you are an adult or a kid. An interactive and fun game can lift everyone’s spirit. Not only that, but games are a great way to bring everyone closer together. Ultimately, planning to play some great cabin and outdoor games, will be a really useful way for everyone to enjoy their trip and each other!
1. Manhunt
Starting with the more outdoorsy types of cabin games, we have manhunt (also known as the fugitive). This is a common favorite amongst the young and the old. Gather your family to play manhunt, and be ready for a fun time! Essentially, manhunt is like a game of hide and seek, but with a twist. This cabin game is great because it requires no props, set up time, or anything. All you need is a space where people can hide. So, a forest by your cabin would be a great fit!
The rules for manhunt are the opposite of hide and seek. You will begin by splitting your party into two groups. Here, one person or a whole group will hide, and the other group will seek to find the fugitives. Make sure whatever area you choose has clear boundaries for whoever is hiding so that no one ends up lost. What is fun about manhunt, is that you can technically play this anywhere! I have once played it in a target, just make sure that no one damages anything.
2. Scavenger Hunt
In addition to manhunt, there is another type of “hunt” that can be an entertaining cabin game. That is the scavenger hunt. This game is a fun way to not only gather things necessary for your trip but to also collect mementos for everyone when the vacation is over. All you have to do is create a list of things you want people to scavenge for and send them out. You can split everyone up into however big of teams you like. To make the scavenger hunt more interesting, you can even offer a prize to whichever team gathers everything the fastest!
3. Obstacle Course
For the parents with energetic kids, or to groups of people looking to build stronger trust with each other, an obstacle course is a great cabin game. When it comes to the kids who seem to never lose energy, parents, an obstacle course is a fun way to tire them out and have fun as a family. There are many types of obstacle courses out there. You can either design your own for your family to maneuver around or perhaps your cabin site has one already. Obstacle courses that are already on site are a great amenity as it can be useful for trust exercises and simply having fun with your friends and family!
4. Scary Stories Around the Fire
Although this may not necessarily be a cabin game, it is still a fun way to spend time with your family and friends. There is something intimate about huddling close to a fire with the people that you care about. I definitely suggest doing so at least once during your cabin stay if you have access to a fire pit.
With the fire blazing, everyone can make some delicious smores and open up about how much they enjoyed their trip. And, after all of that soppy goodness, you can change the mood with some very scary stories! Anyone can tell a scary story, young or old. You can even have a competition to see who can tell the scariest one. This is an option to be enjoyed by just about everyone.
5. Board Games & Card Games
Sometimes we all want to have some indoor fun, especially with the cold air outside. So, what to do when everyone is bored and doesn’t want to go outside? Well, play board games or cards of course! There are so many different board games to choose from, and you can play all sorts of types to keep things fresh. With your group huddled around a board game, sharing laughs, everyone will forget how bored they just were.
If you are lucky, the cabin you’ve rented will have board games available for you to choose from. If not, you can always bring some from home. An option that probably won’t take up so much space while packing, however, would be a pack of cards. And who doesn’t love cards? A good deck is so very versatile and can open the door to many different types of card games. Make sure you bring an extra pack so that different groups can play!
Conclusion
As can be seen, there are all types of cabin games you can utilize to have fun with your family or friends. I strongly suggest trying any of these out on your next cabin trip or any vacation really. Your group will definitely grow together more and enjoy seeing each other smiling. Whether you are set on playing these cabin games in the good outdoors or huddled inside to keep warm, you are sure to have a really fun time. There is no way you will hear the words, “I’m bored,” again!
