5 Pop Up Camper Mods (With Pictures)

Pop up campers are a fantastic choice for a family’s first RV beyond tent camping. Yet, these tiny campers tend to lack a ton of room or feature the best use of space. With some small changes to your pop up, you can enjoy a more functional RV. More storage and convenient features can go a long way when out camping.

Let’s dive into these DIY pop up camper mods and hacks to save space and improve your pop up!

Please note: Any modifications you make are at your own risk. We hold no liability for any potential damage done to your camper as a result of a modification or hack.

1. Add an Awning to Your Pop Up

Most pop-ups come with a built-in awning, yet not all do! Or, if your pop up’s awning is getting old, then adding on a new one can be a great addition. These foldable RV awnings attach right to the top of your hardtop and can zip up when not in use.

Awnings provide you with additional shade on sunny campsites and are one of the best mods to add to your pop up if you don’t already have one.

2. Add a Folding Bathroom Vanity

While pop-ups do not necessarily have a “bathroom”, most do have a sink. With limited counter space you can add in a folding vanity that provides you with a mirror, paper towel holder, and small shelf for your toothbrush and toothpaste.

These vanities drill and attach right into the top of your camper ceiling and fold up when you need to pop your camper down.

As you can see, we also have a hanging multi-level fruit basket next to the vanity to hold other necessities.

3. Install a Bungee Cord Eyelet Hook for Your Door

To the right of your pop up door, you can install a tiny bungee cord eyelet hook hole. This hook can allow you to hold your door open whenever you want! It’s an easy modification to attach right to the side of your camper.

It’s simple, cheap, and gives you the ease to keep your door open—whether it’s to enjoy a nice breeze, air out for cooking, or load and unload your camping gear.

4. Build a Garage Storage Rack

While this modification does not directly impact your pop up while camping, this does help a whole lot when storing your RV. This keeps the weight off the trailer, without compromising storage space in your garage. You don’t want to damage your axels and hardtop by storing a bunch of heavy camping gear on top of it when it’s not in use.

5. Add a Towel Rack Under the Foldout Beds

This mod can be done with a short line of rope tied from each end of the bed (with a few nails). With all the additional space underneath the beds, it makes sense to get some use out of it.

Not to mention, it it rains (like in the photo), then your towels will still remain dry as long as it’s not too windy.

Conclusion

Each of these pop-up camper mods can help to improve your time while out camping. Once again, do these at your own risk and get creative to suit your personal needs. Any tiny change could optimize and improve the functionality of your RV and lead to a better camping experience.
